The Mountlake Terrace Hawks have completed their 2019 regular season volleyball schedule with two significant changes from 2018 — victories and an opportunity to compete in upcoming postseason tournament play.

The Hawks are the No. 8 seed in the District 1/2 2A Volleyball Tournament and will host the No. 9 seed Sedro-Woolley Cubs on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in a first-round, loser-out tourney match at Mountlake Terrace High School. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Terrace earned the spot in the district tournament — and a home match to open the tourney — by posting a season record of 4-11 and edging out the Cubs for the No. 8 position in the district RPI rankings, used to determine district tournament seeds.

While the overall season record may not sound too impressive, how the Hawks got the four wins is. They earned four victories in their final six matches; and four wins is four more than the team picked up all of last year when Mountlake Terrace finished the season 0-15 with no postseason tournament appearance.

The Hawks will be facing a Sedro-Woolley squad on Tuesday that also got hot at the tail end of this year’s regular season. The Cubs won three of their final five matches to post an overall record of 5-9 this year.

The winner of Tuesday’s Hawks-Cubs loser-out district tournament match will move into the double-elimination portion of the tourney on Thursday, Nov. 7, and face the no.1-seeded Lynden Lions at Lynden High School.

The top three teams to emerge from the District 1/2 tournament will earn spots in the WIAA 2A State Volleyball Tournament that takes place Nov. 15 and 16 in Lacey.
