Prep track and field: Hawks grab solid finishes at Eason Invitational

A handful of Mountlake Terrace track team runners took advantage of the nice weather and fast track at the Eason Invitational on April 18, setting some of their fastest times of the season and grabbing some solid finishes at the meet.

The Eason Invitational, held at Snohomish High School, drew competitors from 48 schools from throughout Western Washington.

Terrace sophomore Jessica Ong placed fifth in the 800 meters with her best time of the year at 2:21.76. Hawk Katherine Gustafson also snatched a fifth place finish in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:16.02, while teammate Ella Schroth placed 36th in the event with a time of 6:01.54

In the 3,200 meters, Katherine Walter ran to a ninth place finish with a time of 11:39.55, Sophia Nelson finished 32nd at 12:37.84 and Marika Jamtaas grabbed 35th at 12:43.17.

In the boys’ competition, Hawks Braeden Sims placed 14th in the 1,600 meters (4:36.01), Conrad Bratz finished 21st in the 800 meters (2:04.46), and Daniel Medhane placed 34th in the 3,200 meters (10:16.08).

In addition to the 11 competitors from Mountlake Terrace that made the trip to Snohomish, student athletes from Lynnwood, Meadowdale and Edmonds-Woodway also took part in the big invitational meet. Lynnwood’s Mikayla Pivec won the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.94, finished second in the javelin with a toss of 123-03, and anchored the Royals relay squad that captured the DMR (Distance Medley Relay) event with a time of 12:03.00.

Other notable finishes by Edmonds School District student athletes included Jordan Edwards (Lynnwood) winning the girls 200 meters, Christopher Grant (Meadowdale) winning the boys 110 hurdles and Grant Whitcutt (Edmonds-Woodway) winning the high jump.

This week is a full one for the Mountlake Terrace track teams as they will face Lynnwood in a dual meet on Thursday, Apr. 23, at Edmonds Stadium beginning at 3:30, then host a big invitational meet of their own, the Terrace Invite, on Saturday, Apr. 25; competition on Saturday at Edmonds Stadium is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
