
Three Edmonds School District tennis players punched their tickets to next spring’s state tourney after earning podium finishes at the rain-delayed 3A District 1 Tennis Championships that concluded on Thursday.
Mountlake Terrace junior Jeremy Ansdell will advance to state after finishing second in the district singles competition, losing in the finals to Shorewood’s Gunnar Thorstenson 6-4, 6-2. Thorstenson and third place finisher Ulises Aceves-Castaneda of Everett will join Ansdell in representing District 1 in the state singles tournament next May.
In district doubles competition, Edmonds-Woodway’s Grayson Turley and Arun Kalohke placed third and grabbed the final berth to the state tournament. Turley and Kalohke defeated Mountlake Terrace’s Adam Lorraine and Jakob Peters in the third/fourth place district match, ending the hopes of Lorraine and Peters to qualify for the state tourney.
The 3A state high school tennis championships will take place May 27-28, 2016, in Kennewick and will include qualifiers from girls tennis competition that will take place in the spring of next year.
The 3A District 1 Boys Tennis Championships began play on Monday at Jackson High School in Mill Creek, but needed two extra days and a move to Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon in order to finish up due to the on-and-off rainy conditions in the area this week.

Third/Fourth Place: Grayson Turley / Arun Kalohke (E-W) defeated Adam Lorraine / Jakob Peters (MTHS) 7-5, 6-1
