The Mountlake Terrace Hawks came within a whisker of pulling off the upset of the volleyball season on Thursday, falling to the Archbishop Murphy Wildcats 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13) at Archbishop Murphy High School.
The Hawks, winners of only two matches this year, nearly took down a Wildcats’ squad that sits eight places higher in the 2A/3A Wesco League standings and who had come into Thursday’s contest on a four-game winning streak.
Terrace has two matches remaining in the 2019 regular season, their home finale on Tuesday, Oct. 29, against Shorewood and then at Lynnwood on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The Hawks will likely start the postseason District 1/2 2A Volleyball Tournament on the road on Nov. 5 against an opponent to-be-determined.
In other Mountlake Terrace sports action on Thursday, the Hawks girls soccer team was tripped up by Archbishop Murphy 1-0 in a Wesco League match played at Lynnwood High School.
Terrace will close out their 2019 season on Tuesday, Oct. 29, when they face the Lynnwood Royals, 7:30 p.m., at Lynnwood High School.
