The Mountlake Terrace Hawks boys soccer team had hoped to close in on a berth to the post-season 3A District 1 tournament with a good showing against the Arlington Eagles Friday night. Instead, the Hawks stumbled, leaving them with some must-win matches as the 2016 season heads down the final stretch.

The Eagles defeated Terrace 3-1 in a crucial 3A Wesco League match played Friday at Arlington High School. Bobby Stoyanov was the sole goal scorer for the Hawks.

The win was the first in league play for the Eagles, keeping their slim chances at postseason play alive.

Terrace has three matches remaining in their regular season schedule beginning with a Tuesday, April 26, date with the 9-1-2 Shorewood T-Birds.

The Hawks are battling with six other Wesco League teams for the final two berths in the district tourney that begins on May 7.

In other action on Friday, Terrace’s Jared Maxfield outlasted Shorecrest’s Kegan Corcoran-Sipe in a seven-inning pitcher’s duel as the Hawks slipped past the Scots 2-1 at Shorecrest High School. Maxfield gave up six hits, one earned run, struckout nine, and issued two walks in the matchup. Conor Flynn and Trent Brooks picked up the Hawk RBI’s in the win.

The Hawk softball team pounded Marysville-Getchell 18-5 to earn their tenth win against just three losses this season. Terrace’s Sammy Ruiz went 2-for-3 from the place with a home run and four runs scored to lead the Hawk offense; Julia Brocksmith smacked two singles and double while Amaya Kaupp added a triple and a single in the victory.
