After being outscored 58-21 in its last five games, the Mountlake Terrace softball team broke out its big bats Tuesday and defeated Shorecrest 14-8 in a Wesco 3A South matchup at Shorecrest High School.
Mountlake Terrace clobbered 15 hits, seven for extra bases, and pushed their league record to 8-6, 9-7 overall.
Sophomore Gabby Calhoun picked up the win on the mound by striking out nine Scots in five innings of work; she also helped her own cause at the plate by smacking two triples. Teammates Jazz Zenk and Sammy Ruiz both homered for the Hawks; Kira Doan, Sammy Harter and Amaya Kaupp each had doubles in the Mountlake Terrace hit parade.
With three games remaining in the regular season, the Hawks need just one more win to guarantee a spot in the 3A District tournament set for later this month.
In other MTHS action on Tuesday, the short-handed Hawks failed to set a team score and lost a dual girls golf match to Meadowdale at Lynnwood Golf Course.
The MTHS — Meadowdale baseball game and MTHS — Shorewood girls tennis match slated for Tuesday were both postponed due to inclement weather and re-scheduled for Wednesday, May 6.
