Shorewood senior pitcher Ian Oxnevad out-dueled Mountlake Terrace’s Ben Reijonen Tuesday as the Thunderbirds slipped past the Hawks 3-1 in the first game of their three-game series this week.

The two squads will face each other in the middle game of the series on Wednesday, Apr. 15, at Meridian Park Fields in Shoreline; first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Oxnevad gave up only two hits to Terrace on Tuesday, a Jaden Yackley single in the sixth inning and and a Jason Shevenko RBI single in the seventh inning. The Thunderbird starter struck out eight Hawks and walked only two to earn the win.

Shorewood jumped on Terrace starter Reijonen for three runs off of four hits in the first inning, then held on for the win. Reijonen settled down after the rocky start, giving up a total of six hits in the game and striking out seven.

The win kept Shorewood’s perfect record so far this season intact as the squad is 8-0 in Wesco 3A play and 10-0 overall. The Thunderbirds are the No. 1-ranked 3A prep team in the state according to washingtonbaseballpoll.com.

In other Mountlake Terrace action on Tuesday, Glacier Peak’s Riley Prescott scored a hat trick in the Grizzlies’ 4-2 victory over the Terrace boys soccer team while the Hawks girls’ tennis and golf teams dropped matches to Meadowdale and Edmonds-Woodway respectively.
