After rainouts on Tuesday, the Mountlake Terrace baseball and softball teams were able to get those postponed games in on Thursday with mixed results.
The Hawks baseball squad fell to Glacier Peak 5-1 in what amounted to the second game of their three-game series this week; the Mountlake Terrace softball team roughed up the visiting Shorecrest Scots 11-0 in their rescheduled matchup.
The Hawk baseball team couldn’t generate much offense Thursday as Glacier Peak starter Gabe Eatmon kept the Mountlake Terrace hitters in check; Eatmon gave up just one run and five hits to earn the victory.
With the Glacier Peak win, this week’s series between the two Wesco League 3A South foes is tied 1-1; the deciding game is set for Friday, 4 p.m., at Glacier Peak High School.
Contrasting the baseball squad, the Mountlake Terrace softball team pounded out 11 hits in just four innings Thursday to pick up an easy win over the Scots. The game was shortened to just four-and-a-half innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Hawk Sammy Ruiz struck out eight Scots and gave up just one run to earn the victory. Teammate Ashley Fitzgerald led the Mountlake Terrace offensive attack by going 3-for-3 including a triple and three RBI’s while Ruiz went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
In other MTHS action, both the Terrace girls and boys track teams were victorious Thursday on the road in Marysville. The Hawks girls reached triple digit in team points with a 100-41 victory over Marysville-Pilchuck; the boys, due to the strength of their long-distance runners, outpaced the Tomahawks 84-60.
Chinne Okoronkwo won four events Thursday: the 100, pole vault, long jump and triple jump to lead the Mountlake Terrace girls team. Hailee Malins was victorious in both the shot put and the discus as the Hawk’s only other multi-event winner.
On the boys’ side, the Hawks dominated in the long-distance running events, taking the first seven places in the 800 meters, the top 10spots in the 1600 meters, and finishing in the first five places in the 3,200 meters.
