Prep sports roundup for Friday

After dropping their first two matches of the season, the Mountlake Terrace boys soccer team has been on fire, unbeaten in five matches and averaging almost three goals-per-games. That streak includes the team’s latest result, a 2-0 victory over Marysville-Getchell Friday night.

The win propelled Mountlake Terrace to first place in the 13-team Wesco 3A-2A with a 3-0-0 mark in league play.

Hawk seniors Erik Hynes and Alec Somers scored unassisted second half goals to provide the margin of difference in Friday’s game in Marysville.

In other Terrace action on Friday, the Glacier Peak Grizzlies pounced all over the starting pitcher Jason Shevenko and the Hawks Friday, scoring five runs in the second inning on their way to a 7-2 victory in a Wesco League 3A South tilt played in Snohomish.

With the win GP took the three-game series 2-1 over the Hawks.

Shevenko was rocked for seven hits in his two innings pitched; four of the five Glacier Peak runs scored in the second inning were earned.

Shevenko did provide some offensive spark for the Hawks, going 2-for-3 at the plate – both doubles – and scoring a run. Jared Maxfield led the Terrace attack by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, but it wasn’t enough for the team to overcome the early 5-0 deficit.

The MTHS baseball and boys soccer teams were able to avoid inclement weather and get their games in by playing on the road; the Hawk softball and girls tennis squads had home games scheduled Friday, both of which were postponed due to wet conditions on the Terrace softball field and tennis courts.
