It was Senior Night for the Mountlake Terrace High School volleyball and girls soccer teams Wednesday night, and both squads celebrated the occasion with wins over Wesco 3A opponents.
The Hawk volleyball team rode the emotion of their final match of the 2014 season to upset Edmonds-Woodway 3-1 (26-24, 25-21, 16-25, 25-18), while the Terrace soccer team tuned up for their upcoming games in the postseason with a 2-1 defeat of Marysville-Getchell.
On the volleyball court at Mountlake Terrace High School, the Hawks were seeking just their third win of the season against a Warrior squad that was holding second place in the Wesco 3A.
“Our season wasn’t too hot, we only had a couple wins, but we just wanted to go out with a bang and leave everything out on the court tonight,” Terrace’s Alisha Clingan said.
Clingan, one of eight seniors on the Hawk squad, described the match as bittersweet “because it was our last game here at the high school where we’ve put in such hard work. We all love the game so much. We definitely had a goal of having fun tonight and making it a great game. Ultimately we pulled out a win and I was really grateful for that.”
The Hawks finish their season with a 3-9 mark in league play and 3-11 overall.
On the pitch at Edmonds Stadium, seven Terrace seniors and their families were honored prior to the kickoff of the Hawk-Chargers match. Following the pre-game ceremonies, the Hawks were able to secure a victory over Marysville-Getchell with a pair of second-half goals.
With the win, the Hawks claim the No. 6 seed in the 3A District 1 Girls Soccer Tournament which begins Saturday, Nov. 1. Terrace will open the double-elimination tourney on the road at either Edmonds-Woodway, Arlington or Ferndale.
The top three teams from the district tourney qualify for the state tournament later in November.
