The Mountlake Terrace softball team came from behind twice — the final time erasing a four-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning — and defeated visiting Glacier Peak 8-7 in a Wesco 3A South matchup Monday at Mountlake Terrace High School.
The Hawks found themselves down 7-3 after giving up four runs to the Grizzlies in the top of the sixth inning, but Terrace scored five runs in their last at-bat, the final tally with a bases-loaded walk to Lauren Miller, to grab the victory.
Hawk pitcher Jasmine Zenk earned the win, her third of the season, as much with her offensive production as with her pitching. Zenk went 3-for-4, with two RBIs and scoring two runs while going all seven innings on the mound.
The Grizzlies pounded out 12 hits, including four doubles, but collapsed in the seventh inning against the red-hot Hawks. Terrace has won five-in-a-row and remained tied for second in the tough Wesco 3A South.
The Hawks host the Wesco 3A North leader Everett on Tuesday, Apr. 21, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. The Seagulls are 10-1 and are riding an eight-game winning streak heading into Tuesday’s showdown with Terrace.
