After more than a week off for spring break, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks softball team was back on the field Wednesday and back to their winning ways, defeating the Stanwood Spartans 6-5 at Stanwood High School.

The Hawks, winners of four of their last five games, sit in third place in the Wesco League South Conference just one-half game behind second place Edmonds-Woodway.

Terrace’s Sammy Ruiz picked up the victory on the mound Wednesday. Stanwood’s Riley Sykes was saddled with the loss, the second one-run defeat suffered by the Spartans in as many days.

In other Mountlake Terrace sports results on Wednesday, the Hawk baseball team was roughed up by the Wesco League South Conference leaders Shorewood T-Birds 9-0 in a game played at Mountlake Terrace High School. Terrace could only muster five singles off of T-Bird starter Will Smith, who pitched six innings and recorded four strikeouts to earn the win.

The Terrace girls tennis team was downed 6-1 by the Shorecrest Scots Wednesday at Kellogg Middle School in Shoreline. Senior Tina Liu was the only Hawk to pick up a victory, a 6-1, 6-4 win over the Scots’ Anna Burke.
