The Stanwood Spartans outscored the Mountlake Terrace Hawks 28-2 in the third quarter and ran away with a 62-12 girls basketball victory Monday night at Mountlake Terrace High School.
Four Spartans scored in double figures with senior Haley Strowbridge leading the way with 17 points. Sophomores Jillian Heichel, Ashley Alter and Kayla Frazier added 13, 12 and 10 points respectively for Stanwood.
Terrace could do little against the stifling Spartan defense; six of the Hawks’ eight first- half points came via the free throw line as points from the field were tough to come by. Hawk Jazz Zenk was 4-for-4 from the charity stripe for her four points; teammate Aynika Nuckles also scored four points for Terrace in the loss.
The Hawks (2-3 overall) will hope for a better result on Wednesday, Dec. 16, when they travel to Edmonds-Woodway High School for a clash against the Warriors (4-1 overall) . Tip-off is slated for 7:15 p.m.
