After a 12-0 start, the Lynnwood Royals girls basketball team suffered their first defeat of the 2014-15 season last Monday. On Wednesday, the Royals got back to their winning ways in big fashion, all at the expense of the Mountlake Terrace Hawks.
Lynnwood crushed the Hawks 75-14 in a Wesco 3A South tilt played at Lynnwood High School.
Four Royals scored in double figures in the rout, led by the 15 points of Monty Cooper; Mikayla Pivec tallied 14 points while Kelsey Rogers and Jordyn Edwards each scored 10 points for the Royals.
While nine Lynnwood players found their way onto the score sheet, only two Hawks were able to record points: senior Riley Zucker scored 12 points, while Jorie Lambert added two points.
Despite the 55-43 loss to Todd Beamer on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Lynnwood was able to retain their No. 1 ranking in the latest AP state 3A girls basketball poll released on Wednesday.
The Royals (6-0 in league play, 13-1 overall) will next travel to Shorewood on Monday, Jan. 26, to take on the T-Birds at 7:15 p.m. Mountlake Terrace is in the middle of a brutal four-game stretch where they face teams with a combined record of 47-12. The Hawks (0-7, 1-13) next face the 13-2 Edmonds-Woodway Warriors on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7:15 p.m. at Edmonds-Woodway High School.
