Fourteen teams have tried to take down the defending 3A state champion Lynnwood Royals this season — and so far, none have succeeded. On Wednesday, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks were the first team to get a second shot at the champs.
The No. 1 state-ranked Royals had no trouble putting away the Hawks 67-11 in a Wesco League South Conference game played at Mountlake Terrace High School.
After Terrace scored the first bucket of the night, Lynnwood rattled off the next ten points to take an early 10-2 advantage. The Royals led at halftime 47-9, then coasted in the second half to earn the victory and run their overall record to 15-0.
The Hawks, who had lost to Lynnwood 64-15 in the first meeting between the two teams back on Dec. 5, fell to 0-7 in Wesco League South Conference play, 2-12 overall.
The Royals’ Mikayla Pivec was the top scorer in the matchup with 20 points. Teammates Kaprice Boston and Kelsey Rogers scored 16 and 10 points respectively for Lynnwood.
Terrace will try to break their current ten-game losing streak on Friday, Jan. 22, when they host the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors. Lynnwood gets a week off before they travel to Meadowdale on Wednesday, Jan. 27, to face the Mavericks.
