Prep girls basketball: Hawks succumb to Buccaneers

MTHSHawks logoA day before his squad’s matchup against Kingston, Mountlake Terrace girls basketball coach Zach Wilde summarized a consistent pattern he is seeing in his team so far this season.

“We seem to spot a team 20 points in a quarter and play them even for three quarters in a game,” Wilde said on Friday. Then on Saturday his squad nearly followed that blueprint exactly against the Buccaneers.

Mountlake Terrace gave up 18 points in the third quarter and went on to fall to the Buccaneers 41-23 in their Saturday morning game of the Mountlake Terrace Holiday Tournament.

The loss dropped the Hawks record to 1-7 overall; the 2A Kingston Buccaneers are off to a 5-1 record this season.

The Buccaneers were led in scoring by teammates Lily Eckert and Skyler Bakken, each with 12 points. Mountlake Terrace had eight players collect points in the game, but none in double figures.

In other games in the tourney, Edmonds-Woodway clobbered Redmond 72-44, Monroe upset Inglemoor 52-43, Renton defeated Lakewood 63-45, Marysville-Getchell slipped past Garfield 40-37 and Stanwood downed Lynden 45-35.
