Prep girls basketball: Hawks struggle from the field, lose to Spartans

Led by their hot-shooting freshman Kaitlin Larson, Stanwood easily put away visiting Mountlake Terrace 51-23  Monday night in Wesco 3A girls basketball action at Stanwood High School.

Larson missed just one shot on her way to a game-high 23 points — 15 in the second quarter only – for the Spartans. The freshman recorded a double-double as she also collected 13 rebounds in the matchup.

The Hawks struggled with their shooting, especially in the first half when they were only 2-18 from the field. Mountlake Terrace also committed 21 turnovers in the sloppily played game.

The loss was the fifth straight for the Hawks this season, all against teams with a combined record of 22-5. Up next for Mountlake Terrace will be another quality opponent, 5-0 Edmonds-Woodway on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Mountlake Terrace High School. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15; the game will be streamed live on the Sound Live Sports Network.
