The young Mountlake Terrace girls basketball team found out just how far they have to go to match up with some of the best talent in the state Saturday night as the Hawks were overpowered by the Lynnwood Royals 75-8 in a Wesco 3A game at Mountlake Terrace High School.
The Royals placed third in last year’s 4A State Girls Basketball Tournament and are expected by many to challenge again this season for a state title.
The Hawks (0-1 in Wesco, 1-2 overall) struggled against a suffocating Lynnwood (1-0 in Wesco, 2-0 overall) defense throughout the game; Mountlake Terrace scored just one field goal, a mid-range jumper by Skyler Zenk halfway through the fourth quarter. The remaining six points tallied by the squad came from first half free throws.
Lynnwood’s two victories at the start of the 2014-15 season have come by a combined points total of 147-26.
