The Mountlake Terrace Hawks found their way through the Bellingham Red Raiders’ defense for three rushing touchdowns on Friday, enough to give the Hawks a 21-12 victory in a Northwest Conference Lake Division contest played at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.
Terrace’s Jordan Sims ran for two scores — a first-quarter, 1-yard touchdown run and a third-quarter, 6-yard TD run – and teammate Dylan Breuer added his own third-quarter 6-yard touchdown to lead the Hawks to the win.
Bellingham scored via a 60-yard touchdown run by quarterback Morgan Cavalier on the final play of the first quarter and then in the third off a Cavalier TD pass to Connor McKay.
While the Raiders defense had trouble stopping Terrace’s ground attack, darkness did — for awhile. The game was halted for a few minutes in the fourth quarter when the stadium lights all went out; power was quickly restored and the teams were able to complete the game without any further lighting problems.
The Hawks will return to Edmonds Stadium on Friday, Oct. 25, when they host the Cedarcrest Red Wolves at 8 p.m. The game will highlight a week of homecoming festivities marking the school’s 60th anniversary.
