Prep football: Glacier Peak crushes Mountlake Terrace

MTHSHawks logoAny hopes of Mountlake Terrace capturing the Wesco 3A South regular season title were smashed Friday night as the Hawks were thumped by Glacier Peak 43-3 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Snohomish.

The Grizzlies remained undefeated in league play after the victory and lead the South; Mountlake Terrace dropped to 3-2 in league play and fell to third in the division behind second place Edmonds-Woodway.

Glacier Peak dominated in all aspects of the game Friday night, scoring touchdowns on five of their first six offensive possessions and outgaining the Hawks in total offense 513 yards to 135 yards. Mountlake Terrace got on the scoreboard with a Mikey Jenson 24-yard field goal at the 10:30 mark of the second quarter, but then punted to end each of their remaining seven offensive possessions of the game.

With Mountlake Terrace gaining just 45 yards rushing against the speedy Grizzlies defense, coach Kelly Dougan’s offensive unit had to resort to trying to move the ball through the air. Hawk quarterbacks Jenson and Garrett McDowell combined for eight completions in 16 attempts in the matchup; Daniel Johnson pulled in three catches for 74 yards to lead Mountlake Terrace.

The Hawks will try to get back in the win column on Friday, Oct. 16, when they face the Lynnwood Royals at Edmonds Stadium; kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
