For the second year in a row, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks cross country teams made the trip to northern California to compete in the Stanford Invitational Cross Country meet, an event that attracts teams from throughout California and the west coast. The Hawk squads held their own against against some top-tier competition.
The Terrace girls finished seventh among the 19 scoring teams in the Division 2 classification on Saturday with 212 points. The Hawk boys placed 9th in the same division among the 20 scoring boys teams.
Senior Katherine Gustafson was the top finisher among the Terrace girls, placing 14th in a time of 19:25.60 on the 5,000 meter course on the Stanford University Golf Course. Sophia Nelson came in 23rd in a time of 19:42.30 while Jessica Ong placed 48th in a time of 20:24.30.
On the boys side, Braeden Sims earned a 19th place finish for the Hawks with a time of 16.21.60 and Nick Leidig came in 24th with a time of 16:29.30
The Hawks return to local action on Thursday, Oct. 6, when they host Kamiak and Mount Vernon beginning at 3:45 p.m. on a 2.8 mile course around Mountlake Terrace High School.
