Runners from Edmonds-Woodway, Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood and Meadowdale took part in the Wesco League Cross Country Championship Meet held at Lakewood High School in Marysville on Saturday.
The Edmonds-Woodway girls squad brought home the top team placement among the local squads, finishing fifth in their 21-team competition. The Warriors boys earned sixth while the Terrace boys placed seventh in the boys’ team race that featured 22 squads.
Among the top individual finishes at the event, the Hawks’ Alex Williams placed fourth in the boys’ race; Lynnwood’s Micah Murphy grabbed seventh place while the Warriors’ Josiah Ponton finished 14th among the 209 runners.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Hawks sat out the varsity race at the meet, choosing instead to compete in the junior varsity race. In the varsity race, E-W teammates Ellie Gard and Jemma Willcox placed sixth and seventh respectively; the Royal’s Christina Savenkova ran to a 21st place finish among the 164 competitors.

Next up for the runners is the WIAA Northwest District Championship Meet, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at South Whidbey High School. The event will feature nine championship races: the 3A girls’ race (which will include Edmonds-Woodway, Lynnwood and Meadowdale runners) is scheduled for 10:35 a.m., the 3A boys (Edmonds-Woodway, Lynnwood, Meadowdale) at 11:40 a.m., the 2A girls (Mountlake Terrace) at 12:40 p.m. and the 2A boys (Mountlake Terrace) at 2:00 p.m. Top finishers at the meet will qualify for the state championships to be held on Nov. 9 in Pasco.
