Prep boys basketball: Senior Sean Kirk returns to court for Hawks victory

Mountlake Terrace Hawk senior Sean Kirk has been waiting for almost three weeks to suit up with his teammates and get into some game action this season; the 6-foot-3 guard finally got his chance to get onto the basketball court Friday and made the best of it.

Kirk scored a game-high 20 points and led Terrace to a 58-36 victory over the visiting Marysville-Getchell Chargers in a 2A/3A Wesco League matchup played at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Kirk, a transfer student who played for the Shorewood T-Birds previously, had been prevented from playing for the Hawks this season until his transfer received final approval this week from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).

With the win, the Hawks lifted their league record to 2-0, 4-3 overall; the Chargers fell to 1-1 in league play, 1-6 overall.

While the Hawk boys were winning on their home floor, the Terrace girls’ basketball team traveled to Marysville but didn’t have the same success. The Lady Hawks succumbed to the Chargers 76-29 at Marysville-Getchell High School.

Jorie Lambert scored 12 points in the Terrace loss; the Chargers were led by the 26 points of Gabrielle Grandbois, the 19 points of Carley Wika and the 13 points of Madeline Grandbois.
