Prep boys basketball: Mountlake Terrace falls to Shorewood 51-40

The Mountlake Terrace Hawks boys basketball team reached the 40-point mark in a game for the first time this month Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to claim a victory.

The Hawks fell to the Shorewood T-Birds 51-40 in a Wesco 3A South matchup at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Shorewood never trailed in the contest. Though Terrace (2-4 in league play, 4-9 overall) pulled to within two points, 9-7, midway through the first quarter, the T-Birds took control with an 8-0 run to close the period and would not be challenged again.

For the second game-in-a-row, Terrace was without two of its regular starters, Ryan Lacasse and Derek Anyimah, both of whom are nursing injuries.

Junior Shimron Masih led Terrace in scoring with 13 points, the only Hawk who scored in double figures. The T-Birds (4-2 in league play, 6-7 overall) were led by the 15 points of Jordan Muir-Keung and the 10 points of Karson Gronvold.

Terrace plays three games in five days next week, beginning with a matchup against Thomas Jefferson on Monday, Jan. 19, at a day-long prep basketball event being held at Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish. The MTHS-Thomas Jefferson contest is scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m.
