The Mountlake Terrace Hawks boys basketball team couldn’t capitalize on a hot-shooting third quarter or a second half lead and fell to the Roosevelt Rough Riders 57-55 in a non-league matchup Wednesday night at Roosevelt High School in Seattle.

The Hawks jumped all over Roosevelt in the third quarter, scoring 23 points and taking a 39-35 lead going into the final eight minutes. Roosevelt regained the lead in the final period, pulling ahead 55-50 with 1:30 to go. Terrace fought back to within two points at 57-55 with 9.7 seconds in the game, but in their final possession a three-point shot attempt for the win missed the mark.

Roughrider Jonathan Lang led all scorers in the game with 35 of Roosevelt’s 57 points. Brock Davis scored 12 points and Derek Anyimah added 11 points for the Hawks.

The loss was the first for Terrace this season, dropping their record to 3-1.

The Hawks play their only Saturday game of the season this weekend when they open their home schedule against the Cascade Bruins; tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.

In other MTHS action Wednesday, the girls basketball team won their second game of the year, a 41-39 victory over Cascade. At 2-2 for the season the Lady Hawks have already doubled their win total over last year’s squad that went 1-18.

The Hawks girls team returns to action on Monday, Dec. 14, for a 7:15 p.m. clash with the Stanwood Spartans.
