The Mountlake Terrace Hawks picked up their first Wesco League South Conference win of the season with a 10-3 pounding of the Glacier Peak Grizzlies Friday at Mountlake Terrace High School.
Junior Jared Maxfield earned the victory on the mound with a complete game pitching performance, giving up three earned runs on seven hits, one walk and striking out four Grizzlies.
Every Hawk in the starting line-up got at least one hit in the win; Max Coleman, Alex Hussey and Trent Brooks all went 2-for-4 at the plate for Terrace.
In other Terrace sports action on Friday, the softball team fell to Glacier Peak 5-4 in eight innings. The Hawks’ Jazz Zenk went 2-for-3 with a home run while teammate Sammy Ruiz had two hits and three RBIs, but that was all the scoring the squad could generate against the Grizzlies’ pitcher Bella MacMillian.
In boys soccer, the Marysville-Getchell Chargers grabbed their first win of the season at the expense of the Hawks. M-G slipped past Terrace 1-0 Friday night at Edmonds Stadium.
The Terrace girls tennis team struggled against the visiting Lynnwood Royals Friday, losing 6-1 at Mountlake Terrace High School. The netters will get more than a week off from competition for spring break before returning to play on April 12 when they host the Meadowdale Mavericks.
