About 40 LifeWise employees spent time with Ariana Kukors, world record holder in the women’s swimming 200 meter individual medley, on Wednesday learning about the former Olympic athlete and some fun winter fitness options.

Kukors, LifeWise’s honorary Director of Health Inspiration, was in Mountlake Terrace prior to leaving for Sochi, Russia, where she will be working as a correspondent with KING 5 television for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games next month.

Kukors met up with the LifeWise employees at Olympic View Ice Arena, not far from the shared campus of LifeWise and Premera Blue Cross in Mountlake Terrace, to do a little ice skating, shoot a hockey puck and try out some figure skating jumps using a safety harness.

“This event was designed to allow employees the opportunity to meet her, ask questions about being an Olympian and about her upcoming trip,” explained Robert Ozeroff, PR and Social Media Coordinator for LifeWise. “It was basically a fun excursion meant as a way to give our employees a great, unique experience.”

Though sharing an employee campus in Mountlake Terrace, LifeWise Health Plan of Washington is a separate health care company from Premera Blue Cross.

Kukors won a gold medal and set the world record of 2:06.15 for the 200 meter IM at the 2009 World Swimming Championships in Rome. She has won numerous other world championship medals throughout her career, and placed fifth in the 200 meter IM at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi begin on Thursday, Feb. 6.
