Mountlake Terrace police have two suspects in custody after a car traveling at a high rate of speed crashed through a fence in one yard and ended up in the yard of a residence at 48th Avenue West and 218th Street Southwest just after 6 a.m. Friday morning.

Witnesses say that residents as far as two blocks away heard the impact. The homeowner of the house where the car eventually stopped told our photographer Mark Hopkins that she was asleep when the car crashed right below her bedroom window. She looked out and saw two young men fleeing the scene, one with serious injuries.

Police said the car was traveling at least 100 mph on 48th Avenue West before it lost control and skidded over 150 feet, crashing through a fence in one yard and then coming to rest in the yard at the second residence.  The car still had a piece of the fence from the earlier crash on its windshield when it stopped. The collision took out a ground power transformer, and residents on 218th Street Southwest are reportedly without power. Debris was scattered over a 30 foot radius from the crash scene.
