This Saturday, May 22nd, there is a golf tournament at Ballinger Golf Course. Carol Hardy, Co-Owner of Hardy Golf who runs the golf course, gives us some more details:
This year marks the 4th Annual Sue Gifford Melanoma Memorial Golf Tournament held at Ballinger Lake Golf Course. It is in honor of my mother, Sue Gifford, who passed away from metastatic melanoma in 2003. As the owners of a golf management company and operators of golf courses, we saw first-hand the effects of skin damage. We educate our customers and provide written materials in the clubhouse about protecting your skin.
Our tournament is Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 with an 8am shotgun, check-in is at 7am. It is a 4-man scramble. If a single wants to come out, we will find a spot for them! The $60.00 entry fee includes continental breakfast, green fees, competition prizes and catered lunch. Raffle tickets are also available at $5.00 per ticket. We also have Michelle Lorton, ARNP from the Northwest Dermatology and Skin Cancer Clinic speak to our guests and I of course, share my mother’s personal journey.
Hole sponsorships are available for $100.00 and is a wonderful way to memorialize a loved one or advertise your business. If someone would like that, please call ASAP.
Proceeds from the tournament are donated by Hardy Golf, LLC to the American Cancer Society, specifically earmarked for melanoma/skin cancer research and treatment.
We are fortunate to have the posters, scorecards, sponsorship signs and other materials donated by our friends at Leatherback Printing.
It is a labor of love more than the donations itself, that my husband Tyrone and I have for this tournament. Since the inception, four (4) people who played in our tournament have been diagnosed with melanoma. As they told us, they never thought about being checked for skin cancer until they came to our tournament. It’s about awareness!!
If anyone is interested in signing up, please call me at 425-697-4653.
