There have been big turnouts for the added “Recreational Swim” sessions at the Mountlake Terrace Pavilion this week, according to Recreation and Parks Director Don Sarcletti. “The line has been out the door,” he said Tuesday. It will be a whole different story next week as the pool, spa, sauna and locker rooms will be closed for annual maintenance.
The Pavilion has scheduled additional swim times to take advantage of spring break for all students in the Edmonds School District. When the district resumes classes on Monday, the city’s maintenance department will take over in the aquatic area of the pavilion for five days of work. Scheduled work will include resurfacing the walkways around the pool, painting the locker rooms, and an annual inspection of the pool and spa’s pumps and motors.
“We do all this work now to prepare for the onslaught that summer brings, our busiest season,” Sarcletti said.
The closure only effects the aquatic areas and the locker rooms of the pavilion; other areas, such as the preschool, indoor playground, racquetball courts and meetings rooms will remain open.
All work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, April 13; the spring swim schedule begins the following day, Saturday, April 14.
Pavilion staff are recommending that anyone interested in participating in any of this week’s added “Recreation Swim” sessions arrive up to 15 minutes prior to the start of the session due to demand. This week’s modified schedule can be found online here. Additional information can be obtained by calling the Pavilion at 425-776-9173.
