Pastel paintings from local artist and instructor Jannelle Loewen and three of her students are on display during the month of February at the Mountlake Terrace Library. The exhibit features work of Loewen and students Bev Birmele, Kathy Berg, and Glenda Wilson.
Loewen, an international award-winning artist, is represented by the Cole Gallery in downtown Edmonds and the Lawrence Gallery in Sheridan and Shalishan, Oregon.
Although Loewen started working with pastels just 11 years ago, she has been accepted into 11 juried shows in the last two years, including the 2011 International Pastel Society Show. Among her latest awards are a Best of Show in the 2010 Camano Island’s annual juried show and the Terry Ludwig Award in the 2011 the Northwest Pastel Association’s Annual International Show.
The Mountlake Terrace Arts Advisory Commission oversees the library exhibits as part of its mission to promote cultural events in the community. The Jannelle Loewen Pastel Class Exhibit runs through February 28 at the library, Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m. The Mountlake Terrace Library is located at 23300 58th Avenue West.
