Improvements to the park and ride parking lot at the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center have been completed.
The surface lot pavement was more than 25 years old and parts of it were showing their age. Cracks and tree roots had damaged the asphalt and created a tripping hazard. These areas were repaired and replaced with permeable pavement, which also should reduce the number of puddles when it rains. In addition to replacing part of the pavement, the project added a new topcoat and striping to the lot. The trees in the parking lot were replaced with new trees in special planter boxes that will help prevent future pavement damage while cleaning runoff from the parking lot.
The project cost was estimated at about $425,000 and was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, part of the 2009 stimulus package granted by the federal government specifically for capital projects only.
