The City of Mountlake Terrace is hosting an open house to share information about the Lakeview Trail Project, a plan to provide new pedestrian and bicyclist facilities that would connect the Interurban Trail at 228th Street Southwest with the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center at I-5 and 236th Street Southwest.
The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ballinger Lake Golf Course Clubhouse, 23000 Lakeview Dr. in Mountlake Terrace.
The project would include designated bicycle lanes, improvements to sidewalks and upgrades of curb ramps and crosswalks for 228th Street Southwest, Lakeview Drive and 236th Street Southwest, a corridor that is now used by 5,500 vehicles daily. City officials are looking to improve pedestrian and bicycle access to Lakeview Drive as traffic engineers are expecting vehicular traffic on the street to increase 70 percent upon completion of the western expansion of 228th Street to Highway 99, expected by the fall of 2015.
Design of the Lakeview Trail Project is expected to begin once funding for the plan is finalized. The city has so far obtained about $600,000 through federal and state grants for the project, with the final price tag expected to be $3.1 million.
