Crews took advantage of the nice weather on Monday to bring down most of Fire Station No. 18 on 228th Street in Mountlake Terrace. The 48-year-old station became obsolete after fire operations were moved to a new facility on Poplar Way in Brier in 2011.
Skycorp Ltd. was awarded the contract for the demolition of Fire Station No. 18 last February for approximately $65,000. The company plans to have the demolition complete, debris cleared and some of the site regraded by the end of May.
Following the work at the southeast corner of 228th Street Southwest and 39th Avenue West. the city plans to expand Fire Fighter Memorial Park, located behind the station, add more parking and additional pathways, and reposition the playground equipment.
