The Okoronkwo siblings led the Mountlake Terrace Hawk track teams to solid finishes at the highly competitive Arnie Young Invitational at Renton on Saturday, an event that drew teams from 22 Puget Sound high schools.
Freshman Chinne Okoronkwo placed first in the girls’ pole vault with a mark of 11-6, and won the girls’ triple jump with an effort of 38-10. Senior Gifton Okoronkwo picked up a first-place finish in the boys’ triple jump with a season-best mark of 45-9.25.
Terrace placed first and second in the boys’ triple jump as senior Tye Esparza finished just behind Okoronkwo with a mark of 41-4.5.
Senior Beau Kennedy also picked up an event victory for the Hawks, winning the boys’ javelin with his best throw of the year at 166- 5.
Other top-five Terrace results from Saturday included senior Quinnell Mason finishing third in the boys’ 400 meters with his best time of the season, 52.44; freshman Ella Schroth placing fourth in the girls’ 3200 meters with her season-best time of 12:15.17; and freshman Hailee Malins grabbing fifth place in the girls’ javelin with her best throw of the season, 93-11.
The Terrace boys finished with a team score of 49 points, good for fifth place overall; the girls collected 37 team points, finishing in ninth place.

Terrace track teams next head to Shoreline Stadium on Thursday, April 11, for a meet with Shorewood and Everett beginning at 3:30 p.m.
