The Office Depot at Gateway Place in Mountlake Terrace will be closing on Nov. 15.
The merger between Office Depot and OfficeMax gave the company the opportunity to consolidate its operations, according to Office Depot media relations representative Sarah England.
“Based upon thoughtful analysis, which included a store-by-store evaluation, Office Depot, Inc. announced earlier this year that it plans to close approximately 400 stores in the U.S. over the next several years, ” England wrote in a email. “During our earnings call on August 5, we confirmed approximately that 165 locations will be closing by the end of this year.
As result, Office Depot is closing its Mountlake Terrace store, located at 6005 244th St. SW, Suite 101, according to England.
“We will do everything we can to help associates who may be impacted by providing eligible associates with a severance package and other company subsidized benefits,” England added. “Also, where possible, we are working with our associates to identify open opportunities in our neighboring stores or in other areas within the company.”
The company will continue to serve customers through its OfficeMax in Shoreline at 1345 N. 205 St., an Office Depot in Seattle at 13501 Aurora Ave. N. and an Office Depot in Lynnwood at 19719 Highway 99.
Well, that’s one way to deal with the competition: buy ’em out; shut ’em down. As far as the MLT tax-base is concerned, there’s another business that will no longer be adding to the City’s coffers. Wonder how long this building will remain vacant. Sorry to see it go. I used it often.
