Edmonds Community College students and staff will now have a shorter walk to campus if they take the bus.
A new Community Transit Swift stop opened Wednesday morning at Highway 99 and 204th Street Southwest. The first bus stopped there at noon.
About 1,500 people board buses each weekday near Edmonds Community College. About 600 of those use the Swift stations near the college off Highway 99, at 196th Street Southwest and 200th Street Southwest.
“We’re hopeful that the new Swift bus stop will allow our students, employees and the community quicker and safer access to campus,” Edmonds Community College President Jean Hernandez said.
Edmonds Community College students who commute on transit can get an ORCA “EdPass” for $15 per quarter. More information is available on the Community Transit website.
With this new station, Swift will have a total of 15 stops in each direction. Its terminals are at Everett Station and Aurora Village. The new stop at 204th Street Southwest was always planned for the Swift line when it launched in 2009, but was deferred until the City of Lynnwood extended 204th Street Southwest through to the college. That happened last year.
