When they arrived, they found someone had tried to push open the front doors of the Sports Authority with an SUV. It appeared as though the doors held.
About a half hour into the investigation, officers were able to review the surveillance video and saw the suspect’s vehicle was similar to an older white GMC Jimmy.
Officers then noticed a vehicle matching that description driving nearby in the parking lot. They attempted to contact the driver. The driver sped off and an immediate vehicle pursuit ensued, but Lynnwood officers were able to utilize a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT maneuver) to successfully stop the vehicle.
The driver fled on foot near the entrance to southbound I-5 on 44th Avenue West. Washington State Patrol was nearby handling an earlier crash on northbound I-5 involving downed poles. With their assistance, the suspect was contained and arrested for multiple felony charges.
