For the Mountlake Terrace girls basketball team to reach their goals this year, they will have to be road warriors for the first six weeks of the season; just two of the squad’s first nine games will be at home.
The Hawks open their 2012-13 season on the road at Sultan on Thursday, Nov. 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The team will also play road games at Lynnwood on Saturday, Dec. 1, and at Edmonds-Woodway on Tuesday, Dec. 4, before their first game at home on Dec. 7 against Meadowdale. The Hawks’ only other home game in December is on Dec. 20 against Glacier Peak.
If the MTHS girls can survive the early portion of their schedule, they just may be in position to achieve a berth in the postseason. “Our goal is to make the district tournament,” said head coach David Brophy.
In addition to a tough Wesco and non-league schedule, the Hawks will be participating in the King’s Christmas Tournament at Kings High School in Shoreline Dec. 27-29.
The team is expected to be led by seniors Siera Prout and Taylor Smith, with junior Maddy Kristjanson providing some toughness on the front line. Smith and Kristjanson earned Wesco all-league honorable mentions last year.
While the team is still young, many have game experience; the squad lost just one graduating senior, Monea Kerr, from last year’s team.
