I gather seasonal music is Christmas music and Winter Concert is Christmas concert. Can we just say Christmas instead of using other (PC) words instead of the real word.
Linda, I’ve missed you!
This time of year you can hear music composed to celebrate many holidays, both religious and secular. There are christmas songs and hanukkah songs, pagan songs (Deck the Halls falls in this category), and my favorite “The Pagans and the Christians” by Dar Williams – seriously, this one makes me tear up.
A quick trip to Wikipedia shows that in December alone there are:
15 Christian holidays
3 Pagan holidays
11 Secular holidays (Human Rights Day was yesterday!)
1 holiday each for Buddhism, Hinduism, and Unitarianism
1 Jewish holiday (Hanukkah can fall before or after December, but is often completely in December)
Happy Holidays everyone – whatever you joyfully celebrate!
