Mountlake Terrace High School’s track athletes get their first taste of 3A District Meet action on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium. The district meet then continues on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The boys team comes off a thrilling victory at the Edmonds School District Meet last Friday, finishing just .5 point ahead of rival Lynnwood. It was the Hawks’ third ESD Championship in the past seven years.

“The meet last Friday was not determined by any one performance but by almost every athlete that competed,” said MTHS track coach Russ Vincent. “Every single boy who scored made it happen.”
Leading the team at the ESD meet were senior Jared Dick, winning the 400 meters, junior Beau Kennedy, who easily topped all competitors in the javelin, and Anfernee Calloway, picking up the victory in the long jump.

On the girls side, Mountlake Terrace senior Nina Penner won the 800 meter, senior Dorothy Moore picked up victories in the shot put and the discus, and sophomore Jessy Smith won the high jump.

Vincent hopes to have as many as 12 Hawks qualify for the state tournament being held May 24-26 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
