Although there is no place like home, students in the Madrona Children’s Theatre (MCT) hope plenty of musical theater lovers will venture to Mountlake Terrace High School this weekend for their performances of Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz.”
For more than 20 years, MCT has provided Edmonds-based Madrona School students in fourth through eighth grades the opportunity to produce a full-scale musical each spring. “The Wizard of Oz” will open on Thursday, March 20, and will continue through Sunday, March 23. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children 14 years old and younger.
So many of the 650 students at Madrona School take part in “The Wizard of Oz” production that two separate casts will be performing this weekend. The Ruby cast, including a number of students in the North Puget Sound Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program, will perform the musical on Thursday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Emerald cast will take the stage on Friday at 7 p.m. and two performances on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.
MCT will also be conducting a silent auction in the lobby of the Mountlake Terrace High School Theater over the weekend. Donated items from Edmonds businesses including Glazed and Amazed, Walnut Street Coffee, Revelations, Nama’s Candy Store and Kitchen Spoon will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to fund MCT’s productions and scholarship programs.
