Seniors Michele Hairell and April King are representing Mountlake Terrace High School at this week’s WIAA 3A State Girls Golf Championship in Spokane. Hairell shot a 109 while King finished with a 110 after Tuesday’s first round at the 6,249-yard, par 70 Esmeralda Golf Course.
Eighty golfers from around the state qualified for the 36-hole tournament. The leaders after the first day of competition are Amanda Beyke, Decatur High School; Rachel Lewis, Peninsula High School and Sammie Pless, Holy Names Academy, each posting a score of 73, three-over-par.
Hairell and King qualified for state due to their finishes at the District 1 tournament last week in Bellingham.
