Mountlake Terrace High School junior Will Khadivi has been selected to participate at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference in Washington D.C. July 13-18. Khadivi serves as co-editor of the MTHS student newspaper, The Hawkeye.
Khadivi is one of just 51 students, and the only one from Washington state, to be chosen to attend the all-expenses-paid conference. The event is staged by the Freedom Forum to honor Al Neuharth, the founder of USA Today, Newseum and the Freedom Forum.
The conference often attracts significant figures in government and journalism during its run; last year’s presenters included U.S. Senator John Thune, U.S. Representative John Lewis, CBS News correspondent Bob Schieffer, and PBS NewsHour contributor Judy Woodruff.
Khadivi is the third MTHS student to be selected to attend the conference in the past eight years. Last summer AnhViet Nguyen attended the gathering; Alex LaCasse was chosen to participate in 2005.
