Two Mountlake Terrace Hawks have qualified for the WIAA Boys State Swimming and Diving Championships that take place starting Friday, Feb. 21, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Senior Connor Bruce will compete in the 3A Men’s 100 breaststroke event, while junior Sam Armentrout will swim in both the 100 breaststroke and the Men’s 200 IM (individual medley). The 3A preliminary heats are scheduled to begin Friday at 6:15 p.m.
Bruce and Armentrout will join hundreds of other competitors in the two-day state meet. In addition to deciding 3A team and individual champions in 12 different events, both 4A and 2A schools will be determining their state champions at the meet also. The 4A prelims begin at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, while the 2A schools will be conducting their prelims beginning at 2:30 p.m. All finals will be held on Saturday.
Tickets for single-day admission to the state swimming and diving championships are $9 for adults and students without a valid ASB card; $7 for students with an ASB card, seniors age 62 and older, and children 5-11. For a two-day pass to the event adults and students without an ASB card will pay $15; students with an ASB card, senior age 62 and older, and children 5-11 will pay $10.
