Members of the Mountlake Terrace High School robotics team, Team 1778 Chill Out, participated in the Edmonds School District “Celebrate Schools” event at the Alderwood Mall on Saturday. Team members were sharing information about robotics programs at area high schools and showing off one of their robots on the south plaza of the mall’s food court.

The robotics team designs and builds robots that participate in various competitions throughout the school year. Last year the team’s efforts culminated with a trip to St. Louis to compete in the 2012 FIRST Robotics Competition Championships at the Edward Jones Dome last April.

The MTHS robotics program is led by math and engineering teacher Craig Devine and technology teacher Dan Lafferty.

Team 1778 Chill Out is combining with robotics teams from Edmonds-Woodway and Lynnwood high chools to host a benefit spaghetti dinner and auction Saturday, Oct. 20, to raise money for the schools’ robotics programs. The dinner, catered by Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant in Lynnwood, begins at 5:30 p.m. at Edmonds-Woodway High School, 7600-212th St. S.W. Tickets are $10. Special VIP tables for eight are available for $200, and feature a near-the-stage location, special decorations and priority VIP service.
