Clubs & Activities: Invisible Children: I’m the club president of Invisible Children. I arrange all meetings and activities/events. We meet once or twice a week for about 45 minutes in the morning. Our goal is to raise as much awareness and money as possible for those suffering in northern Uganda, Congo, Sudan, and the Central African Republic. I’ve put on two large events so far this year.
ASB: I was the freshman class president, but didn’t continue my work in ASB after my sophomore year.
Athletics: I played softball for around 10 years. I mostly played on select traveling teams, but also played for the MTHS team during my freshman year.
Honors: My junior year I took AP Language and Composition. This year I’m taking AP Literature and Composition, AP Psychology, as well as College in the High School Astronomy. I also took Legal 200, Introduction to Law and the Legal Process, as my senior history equivalency.
Awards: Earlier this year I won the Rotary Student of the Month award for November after putting on the first Invisible Children event where the Roadies from the Invisible Children came.
Community Service: I volunteer two nights a week at Terrace Park School for the Community Homework Center (formally called the Rotary Hispanic Center). I volunteer every Tuesday/Thursday for two and a half hours each night. The center consists of elementary-middle school-aged kids who need help on their homework. Oftentimes, the children need help on their homework because their families have moved here from another country and their language skills are limiting their understanding.
Culminating Project: My senior project was to hold an event for Invisible Children. I did this on March 21st during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd period. My event was to have the Invisible Children roadies come to my high school and present about the situation in Central East Africa. I had already done this in October, but IC had made a new film in the time since the last screening.
Future Educational Goals: I’m still waiting to hear back from Western Washington University, which is my top choice for college after high school. But I have already been accepted to the University of Washington Bothell. I will attend UWB if I don’t get accepted to WWU. After college, I plan on going to law school to become a lawyer. I also want to get a degree in Political Science because I plan on going into politics.
Future Career Goals: I would love to get a law degree and build my own law firm in time. I know I’ll have to work for someone else when I’m starting out, but I hope to have my own firm in the future. After being a lawyer, I would love to go into politics. I’m not sure what my exact plan is for that, but I’m definitely interested.
