MTHS musicians to perform at annual Jazz Connection festival Saturday

Jazz musicians from Mountlake Terrace High School will be part of a day of concerts and live performances at the Edmonds Jazz Connection Festival this Saturday, May 24, in Edmonds. The MTHS Jazz 1 and 2 bands, in addition to two jazz combos from the high school, are scheduled to play at the daylong event.

Mountlake Terrace HS Jazz 2 is slated to perform at 11:00 a.m., the Mountlake Terrace HS Jazz 1 will take the stage at 4:20 p.m. Both performances will take place at the Edmonds Masonic Center, 515 Dayton Street.

The Mountlake Terrace HS Jazz Combo 1 will be the first of the MTHS groups to play on Saturday as they are scheduled to perform at 9:30 a.m. Mountlake Terrace HS Jazz Combo 2 is slated to perform at 12:30 p.m. All of the festival’s jazz combo performances will take place at the Edmonds Theater, 415 Main St.

The Edmonds Jazz Connections Festival, now in its 14th year, is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers and serves as a showcase for young jazz musicians in the area. In addition to student musicians from Mountlake Terrace High School, other high schools to be represented at the event include Edmonds-Woodway, Meadowdale, Lynnwood, Arlington, Shorewood, Cascade, Monroe and Mariner. Groups from Meadowdale Middle School, College Place Middle School and Edmonds Community College are also scheduled to perform.

Admission to all the festival performances is free, but donations will be accepted at each of the three festival venues. Proceeds from the event will go toward student musician college scholarships, pro-am clinics, instrument purchases and instructional costs.
