The Mountlake Terrace High School football squad began fall practices this week in preparation for the 2012 season and the opening game at Stanwood on Aug. 31.

About 30 players were put through various drills by Head Coach Tony Umayam and his coaching staff Wednesday afternoon. Coach Umayam expects more players to become eligible to participate as practices continue this week through Saturday. “We’re looking for some more of the guys to finish up and turn in their paperwork,” Umayam said.

Umayam doesn’t see the expected hot weather this week to be a factor in the practices. The team takes plenty of breaks and water is made available for the players, he said.

Although most of the high school is still off-limits due to the continuing roof work on the facility, the football squad does have access to the locker room inside the building and the practice field on the east side of the complex.

Umayam, a 1990 graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School, is entering his 15th year of coaching high school football; this will be his ninth year as the Hawks head coach.

All eight of the MTHS 2012 football games, both home and away, will be video broadcasted live on MLTnews.com.
