MTHS fall sports preview: cross country

By Doug Petrowski

The Mountlake Terrace boys and girls cross country teams are off and running with early season practices as they prepare for their opening meet on Sept. 13.

“I think the entire team and I are all very excited for cross country and have been looking forward to it for months,” said junior Jack Pearce.

Coach Todd Weber should be able to field a strong boys team with a number of runners back from last year. “Our team has aspirations of qualifying for State for the first time since 2006,” said Pearce.

Pearce has specific goals for himself: “I personally have set goals of making State as an individual, then placing in the top 15 at State, and breaking 15 minutes and 50 seconds in the 5000 meter,” he said.

The girls team will be in a rebuilding year as a number of their leading runners from last year graduated.

The cross country team hosts one home meet this season on Sept. 19 at Mountlake Terrace High School. The WIAA 3A State Meet is scheduled for Nov. 3 in Pasco. The complete boys and girls cross country team schedule is here.
